Good Shepherd –
The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd (1871) was established through the efforts
of several local families on land donated by Captain Fleming Saunders. The graveyard
contains the stones of the Early, Langhorne, Brown, and Saunders families and is
still in use.
John Monk Saunders, grandson of Robert Chancellor Saunders of Caryswood was a World
War I aviator, wrote the screenplay for Wings, a silent movie that won the first
Academy Award, and married the actress Faye Wray.
